About the Author
Deneen was born in Detroit and raised in a small town in the ‘thumb’ of Michigan. From a young age, she was interested in science, particularly biology and physiology. She attended Arizona State University, Michigan State University and received her Bachelor of Applied Science from Sienna Heights University. She was then awarded an Associate degree in Sonography from Marygrove University and began a career as an ultrasound technologist, eventually specializing in vascular and doppler technology.
While working and raising her son, Andrew, Deneen went back to school to obtain her Masters in Medical Science and became a Physician Assistant. Over the last two decades, she has practiced in medical specialties including Gynecology, Cardiology, Orthopedics and Plastics & Reconstructive Surgery. She is currently practicing Urgent Care & Family Medicine.
Deneen is passionate about many hobbies, including tapestry weaving, jewelry making, road cycling, running, kayaking, hiking and writing….and most importantly, keeping abreast of the latest in nutrition research. She has lived in Michigan, Samoa and New Mexico, and is currently in Portland, Oregon. She is very close with her son, Andrew, who is a filmmaker and sailor. She spends most weekends in Hood River, Oregon with her partner, Scott and his young son, Revel.
